I drew up this quick sketch about a year ago. I really didn't know what I was going to do with it. Then, just out of boredom, I popped in Batman Begins and watched it the other day. I was really inspired by the color of the film. Especially the night scenes that were filmed with an amber/ orange hue.
I remembered my old sketch and thought it would be neato to try putting that pallete to it.
So here it is. And although I think Batman's cape and cowl should be more matte to blend in the shadows, I couldn't resist giving him a little highlight.
wow I really like this compilation. incredible. the colors are done equally as well. the shading and highlights make the different parts jump out at you even though the style seems like it should be flat. I think that's what I like most. and i mean the subject? batman? how can you lose. used to watch the show everyday after school haha.
Thank you very much. You're too kind.
The flatness wasn't that intentional. It was a really quick sketch I did with a sharpie and I kind of just threw the buildings in as I went, so the is a major lack of perspective, if you don't count atmospheric. HAHA.
Anyway, I was really just trying to convey Batman watching and protecting over his city. I'm really glad you like it. In fact, I was kind of aprehensive to display it, but, you've settled my conscience. Thanks.
That's what I always think. But, you'd be surprised at some of the blunders I've done of the Dark Knight. This is actually one of my first successful Bats pieces.
this is great...the colors and ruff looking draft lines in the buildings really work great together. Add to that the smoke drifting over your line work and you've got a wonderfully moody picture of the bat. Great.
