Monster Roaming by BrattyBen Monster Roaming by BrattyBen
Here's one of the final versions of my design. I really like how this came out.

I'm rethinking the tusks, but, the was more to get a sense of how big it was and how destructive it could be.

Granted, it's not finished, but, I need to ink it and refine a couple of things. I think the overall composition and design hold up.

Let me know what you think.

What's the point if you're not honest?

Yeah, that's what I say! I knew it would spark some creative juices, and since they didn't explain anything about the monster, I don't have to worry about riffing an origin(which I've worked out and think is pretty cool).

That's not hard to believe. On a serious note, you did a fine job with the monster.

I agree with Dan. Perspective is a bitch and you put it in its place.

Not directly. Only in hindsight. But when you mentioned it, I totally knew what you were talking about. You can totally see that as Calvin running around in his own imagination.
Those dinosaur strips were some of my favorites. I'm sure way deep in my subconscious Watterson was making some footprints.

Yeah, great comp an design... great details/story... love how it's engaged, but has just broken up the buildings, etc

And I assume you'll put in more details in the bottom right corner of the street, where things fade out... that would complete it!

Can't wait to see the finished!

Your stuff is looking amazing!

Yeah, I wanted the tentacles in there, but, ran out of room within my image area. So I just decided to break the border. I see what you're saying about coming out of the action.
I tried to arc his tail so that it would bring you back into the picture leading you down the smoke right to it's head.

I really like how he's breaking the panel with the tusk thingy's but at the same time its maybe the most dynamic part of the picture and kinda draws my eye away from the action....

This would be sick in color. Lovin' your perspective on the buildings. If there's one thing i need to work on, it's cityscapes.

If there's one thing you just flat-out rock at, it's perspective. I've often found myself staring at your pictures, taking mental notes on how to better my own ability in that department.

Oh god, don't do that. I'm horrible. That's the one thing that always makes me uneasy.
Maybe I'm getting better at it and don't notice it. I think if I used a ruler, it might be better.

Thanks for the kind words, man.

Hah. I think artists are basically incapable of discovering what they're doing right unless someone points it out to them. If they think they're hot stuff without being told, they're generally... not.

Absolutely amazing! I actually wish I could draw that well =O. You pay so much attention to detail, too.

Well, maybe. I figure myself more of an impressionist, in I only hint at the detail instead of filling it in. I could really get in there, but, then it gets to technical and loses some of that charm.

Glad you like it. That makes it all worthwhile!!
